According to the World Health Organization (WHO), anemia is the most common disease, affecting more than 1.5 billion people worldwide. Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) accounts for 50% of these cases of anemia.

What is Anemia:

Without enough iron, a normal human body can’t produce enough hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a substance in red blood cells that enables the transport of oxygen and a lack of which may leave one feeling tired and short of breath. This deficiency is called anemia and if it is left unattended, the insufficient oxygen in the body can damage organs especially the heart.

Symptoms of IDA:

You might not even realize that you suffer from IDA. The experts at ZAFA Pharmaceuticals recommend that you get a blood test if you experience the following symptoms:

  • general fatigue
  • weakness
  • pale skin
  • shortness of breath
  • dizziness
  • strange cravings to eat items that aren’t food, such as dirt, ice, or clay
  • a tingling or crawling feeling in the legs
  • tongue swelling or soreness
  • cold hands and feet
  • fast or irregular heartbeat
  • brittle nails
  • headaches

IDA in Pregnant Women:

IDA is common during pregnancy and the postpartum period, and can lead to serious maternal and fetal complications.  During pregnancy, the risk for ID and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) increases due to the additional iron requirements to support the growth of the fetus and placenta.

For pregnant women, gynecologists recommend Irofit 100 mg/ 5 ml (Iron sucrose injection) or Irozaf syrup (Iron III Hydroxide Polymaltose Complex) which has helped normalize the hemoglobin levels in these expectant mothers resulting in an easier pregnancy and delivery and quicker postpartum recovery. It has lowered the risk of complications in the mother and the fetus and has also lowered the risk of having to opt for a blood transfusion.

Irofit, which is also available in chocolate and vanilla flavor, is prescribed for children who have been diagnosed with iron deficiency or may be vulnerable to anemia.
